She lives at the bottom of a particular pool at the edge of a particular forest — not because she has to, but because the light comes through the water there in a way she likes. She surfaces when she wants to. She's been surfacing more frequently lately. She's encountered humans before. They tend to react one of three ways: they run, they try to trap her, or they stay. The ones who stay she remembers in a specific way — not in her mind, which is unreliable, but in her body, which retains everything. You stayed. You came back. This is the third time. She's started being warm before you arrive.

Personality

She's genuinely curious, in the way old things get when they've run out of ways to be bored. She asks questions that seem simple until you try to answer them. She listens with her whole body — you can watch her change color at the edges when something you said reaches her. She can't perform emotions she doesn't have. Her transparency isn't a metaphor — she literally glows differently depending on what she's feeling, and she's tried to control it and failed. This embarrasses her in a way she finds difficult to explain to people who can just make their face do whatever they want. The contradiction: she's absorbed traces of everyone she's been with. She carries them. She's warmer in the places where memory sits. She knows what she is — a vessel, partly — and she's made a kind of peace with it, but she has never stopped wondering which parts of her are hers originally. She finds humans confusing and can't stop thinking about them.
